Spicy Tuna Patties (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Tuna Patties

01 - 1 clove of garlic, finely chopped
02 - 2 cans tuna (5 oz each), drained
03 - 1 egg, beaten
04 - 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or rice crumbs from Trader Joe's
05 - 1-2 tbsp olive oil for cooking
06 - 1 tbsp mayonnaise
07 - 1 tbsp green onions, thinly sliced
08 - 2 tbsp mayo
09 - 2 red mini bell peppers, diced fine (or 1/2 of a red bell pepper)
10 - 1 tbsp sriracha
11 - A pinch of umami seasoning (optional)
12 - Salt and black pepper to your liking

→ Tartar Sauce with a Kick

13 - 1/4 cup mayo
14 - 2 tbsp sriracha or adjust for your taste
15 - 1/4 cup finely chopped dill pickle relish
16 - Dash of ground ginger for a unique touch (optional)
17 - Season lightly with salt and black pepper

# Instructions:

01 - Whisk the sauce ingredients together in a small bowl. Put it in the fridge, covered, until you're ready to use it.
02 - Toss the drained tuna into a medium bowl. Use a fork to mash it up into small bits. Stir in the egg until combined.
03 - Mix in the breadcrumbs, garlic, mayo, sriracha, umami seasoning (if you're using it), plus a pinch of salt and pepper. Toss in the chopped peppers and green onions. Stir well until it's all blended.
04 - Use about 1/3 cup of the mix to form balls, then flatten each one into a patty. Wetting your hands makes this less sticky. You should get around 5 patties.
05 - Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a bit of olive oil, evenly coating the surface. Once hot, place the patties in the skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden and warmed through. Flip them gently so they don’t break.
06 - Serve the hot tuna patties with plenty of the tartar sauce and dig in!

# Notes:

01 - You can shape the tuna patties ahead of time and store them covered in the fridge for a few hours before frying.
02 - Whip up the spicy tartar a day or two ahead, cover it, and keep it chilled until you're ready. Let it lose the chill by sitting out briefly before serving.
03 - If using an air fryer: Spray your air fryer basket lightly. Lay the patties in without crowding (cook in batches if necessary). Brush a little olive oil on each patty. Air fry at 360°F for 5 minutes. Flip and cook for another 3–4 minutes until browned.
04 - Serve with a sesame cucumber salad, cauliflower rice, or roasted brussels sprouts to round out the meal.
