Drain your chickpeas and then rinse them thoroughly.

In your blender, toss in everything but the water. Keep the basil on top and the chickpeas and liquid ingredients closer to the blades.

Start on a low speed. Drizzle in water little by little as you blend, pausing occasionally if your blender lid doesn't let you pour while blending.

Keep blending until you get a soft and spreadable mixture.
