Homemade Pupusas (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 cup of refried beans (you can skip this if you want).
02 - 2 tablespoons of butter or lard.
03 - 2 cups of masa harina.
04 - A teaspoon of chicken bouillon (totally optional).
05 - Half a teaspoon of salt.
06 - 1 to 2 cups of hot water, enough to bring the dough together.
07 - Oil for frying.
08 - 1 cup of shredded cheese.

# Instructions:

01 - Mix the masa harina with bouillon and salt. Slowly pour in the hot water as you go. Once it feels like soft dough, mix in the butter.
02 - Roll dough into 12 balls, about the size of a golf ball. Cover them with a damp cloth so they don’t dry out.
03 - Flatten each dough ball and put some beans and cheese in the middle. Fold the edges over the filling and press it into a 3-inch flat disc.
04 - Heat some oil on a griddle. Cook each pupusa for about 3 minutes per side, or until the crust looks golden.

# Notes:

01 - Wet your hands to keep dough from sticking.
02 - Let a crust form before you flip them over.
03 - It’s best to make and cook them immediately.
