Grab the cranberries and toss any damaged ones while rinsing them in a strainer under cool water.

Pour the sugar and water into a medium-sized pot. Stir while heating on high until the sugar melts and the water starts bubbling.

Add the cranberries to the hot water and sugar combo. Let it boil again and then bring the heat down to a low simmer for around 10 minutes, or until most of the berries pop.

If you like, mix in extras! Maybe half a cup of chopped pecans, a little orange zest, or some holiday spices like cinnamon or nutmeg.

Take the pot off the stove and let the sauce cool to room temperature. When that's done, move it to a bowl and chill it in the fridge so it thickens as it cools more.
