Chop off the stems and peel away any rough outer leaves. Slice each sprout in two from top to bottom.

Pop the halved sprouts into a bowl and pour hot tap water over them. Sit tight for 15 minutes.

Warm up the air fryer to 375°F.

Shake off excess water from the sprouts. Coat them with oil, salt, pepper, and, if you're using it, some red pepper flakes.

Spread the sprouts in one layer inside the air fryer basket. Cook for 12 minutes at 375°F, giving them a shake around the halfway mark.

Move sprouts onto a dish and enjoy while they're crispy and hot.
